Phobias

Tomorrow does not need to be the same as today

As human beings, it is useful for us to learn that some things in life are dangerous. It ensures our survival. As we grow up, we learn from other people, in particular our parents, what these dangers are and how to deal with them or to avoid them. Being aware of possible dangers is therefore natural and helpful. Most of the time we run on automatic pilot, increasing our awareness as situations demand, occasionally increasing our state of readiness to ‘red alert’, then relaxing once the danger is past.

If you suffer from a phobia, a particular object or situation creates in you an abnormal fear. Your sense of danger and your state of alert are exaggerated. You will be spending time and energy avoiding whatever causes your phobia - constantly on the look out for danger. That can make life quite exhausting. Your mind and body are not built to function at full stretch all the time.

As you are reading this, it is very likely that you have come to a stage where having this phobia is interfering too much with your life, making it too difficult and too stressful. As you have found, having a phobia restricts your choices and affects your relationships. The good news is that, with my help, you can be free of it.

Stored in the subconscious mind, your phobia is an automatic response. Whatever its origins, it is no longer a helpful response, even if it once was. Being a product of the subconscious, that response will persist, however, until you change the thinking that produces it. Hypnosis, EFT and NLP can all help to change that thinking and remove the exaggerated and irrational fear that flows from it.

Though it may seem strange, part of you may be reluctant to give up your phobia. Sometimes, even without consciously realising it, there are gains to be had from hanging on to a phobia. This too can be dealt with when you feel ready to be free of the restrictions that your phobia places upon you.

Whether it is a fear of flying, of cats, of enclosed spaces, or of one of the host of other phobias that is making your life difficult, remember, tomorrow can be better than today.

My fear of spiders has been a huge burden to me for the majority of my life. Chris listened to me, was really understanding and non-judgemental. After three sessions, I have now overcome my fear! I am delighted with the results – well worth every penny. Helen S.

You will be pleased to know that I did manage to fly to Alicante without any fuss or trauma and we all had a lovely holiday. Susan C.
