Becoming a non-smoker

Making any change in life is a challenge, particularly when it means letting go of a part of ourselves

Do you want to kick the smoking habit?  Are you ready to become a non-smoker?    Then I can help you.  Hypnosis, EFT and NLP can be very powerful in helping you to achieve your goals.

Smoking is generally thought of as an addiction.  This has two parts.  Firstly, there is the physical addiction to nicotine.  As nicotine leaves the system within 48 hours, that’s the easy bit to deal with.  Secondly there is the psychological addiction, or, put more simply, the deeply ingrained habit.  It is the psychological hold that cigarettes have over smokers that often makes it so hard to give up.

Stored in the subconscious, the smoking habit has become a part of you.  Lighting up is an automatic and well-grooved response to certain situations.  It means that you can make a conscious decision to become a non-smoker, but, at the same time, you can sense that a part of you is reluctant to do so.

All smokers are aware of the greatly increased health risks associated with smoking.  All the smokers who come to me mention the unpleasant smell and after taste of cigarettes.  Many mention that they can’t breathe so easily, they have a cough, or they don’t feel as fit as they used to.  When they calculate what they have spent on smoking over a lifetime, they are often staggered at the amount of money they have ‘wasted’.  Although consciously aware of all these negative results of smoking, they have continued to smoke.  Certainly the nicotine craving will have played its part.  Even more powerful will have been the part that cigarettes have played in their lives and a concern about how they will manage without them.

Like most smokers you may believe that cigarettes help you to relax, to concentrate and to prevent boredom.  Your experience may be that they make a meal or a pint taste better.  You may also find them a pleasure in social situations, particularly mixing with family members, friends or work colleagues who smoke.  How comfortable will you feel saying, “No thanks, I’m a non-smoker”?  If you always turn to a cigarette in a stressful situation, how will you manage the situation as a non-smoker? These are the type of issues that you will need to address if you wish to become a non-smoker.

Pause for a moment and imagine life as a non-smoker.  See yourself in the situations in which you used to smoke.  How comfortable do you feel?  How confident are you about saying ‘No’?  How much are you rejoicing that you are free of a harmful and expensive habit?

That is the challenge – to have a positive vision of yourself as a non-smoker and, with my help, to fulfil that vision.

Anyone who comes to me can leave as a non-smoker at the end of their consultation.  I want to give them - and you - the best chance of remaining a non-smoker.  That involves good preparation by both of us before you take the final decision to become a non-smoker and kick the habit for good.  That’s why:

·        I give you an initial free telephone consultation

·        in your first session, we clear any barriers to your becoming a non-smoker

·        in your second session I teach you further coping techniques and use hypnosis to send you out a non-smoker

·        I offer you a free back up session if you feel you need support within three months of your second session

I ask you to come to me for two sessions in person, currently at a cost of £75 each.  Total cost £150 – approximately the cost of a month’s cigarettes if you smoke 20 a day.  Prior to that I talk with you on the telephone.  I also ask you to complete a questionnaire in advance of the first session.  After the telephone call or after the first session you can choose to go ahead to the next stage or not.  In the sessions I teach you techniques to help you manage this major change in your life.  They include self-hypnosis for relaxation and re-enforcement and EFT for releasing cravings and anxieties.

Some people find giving up smoking easy.  Many more people find it is an enormous challenge.  But think about it: what challenges have you faced in your life already and succeeded with?  If you believe you are ready for this latest challenge, I’ll be happy to help you.
